‘Someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality’.

Never a truer word has been spoken.

I saw a video by a guy named Jay Shetty, in the video he quotes his teacher who told him exactly this when everyone else had written him off because he had an intellectual disability.

He went on to prove everyone wrong.

Over the years a lot of people have written Isla off before she even got chance to get started.

Everyone wanted to discuss what she couldn’t do and not what she could.

Everything was negative.

Everyone used words like ‘can’t and ‘won’t’ not ‘can’ and ‘will’.

If we’d have listened to the opinions of others and even those who didn’t say anything but gave us ‘that look’ of pity answer despair, we’d have believed Isla wouldn’t make progress.

But we didn’t listen and progress she does, sure but steady.

Progress no matter how small is still progress, Isla’s moving forward, one little step in front of the other at a time with us, her family right by her side.

We her to chose what we do with people’s opinions of us, we can allow them to affect us or we can rise above and prove them wrong.

Other people’s opinions of Isla will not become Isla’s reality.
